The Connector to Endoscopy Washer allows the brachytherapy oesophageal applicator to be processed through the endoscopy washer. This enables oesophageal applicators to be decontaminated to a sufficiently high standard that they can be used on the next patient.
The existing method of decontamination uses a chemical cleaning solution that can no longer be used in GSTT and has prevented brachytherapy from being delivered to the patients with oesophagus cancer.
The Connector to Endoscopy Washer is of use in radiotherapy departments which offer brachytherapy to oesophagus patients using Elekta equipment.
